Wine termsDo you ever listen to someone talk about wine and wonder what the heck they mean when they say something like, “The tannins are extremely chewy.”? Do you think to yourself, “What in the world are tannins and are we sure we are drinking the same wine because there is nothing chewy in my glass!”? Wine is one of those things where in order to sound like you know what you are talking about you need special terminology. Don’t worry though, it isn’t that overwhelming and once you know what the terms are it starts to make a lot of sense. Below is a chart with some of the most commonly used wine terms, what they mean, and how to use them in a sentence. Keep it as a handy cheat sheet for the next time you get stuck with a wine snob and smiling, nodding and slowly backing away is not an option.
